Isabelle Jacobson Abrams '13 – Child, Youth, and Community Education Major

Florida Teacher Says Curry Prepared Her to Succeed in the Real World

When she first came to Curry as a prospective student, Isabelle Abrams Jacobson ’13 says the campus’ warm, welcoming atmosphere immediately put her at ease.

“I knew I wouldn’t be ‘a number’ here,” she says.

Four years later, the aspiring educator graduated with a degree in Child, Youth, and Community Education, quickly landing a teaching position at Miami’s Scheck Hillel Community School.

“My classes, my professors – everything and everyone at Curry prepared me so well for the real world,” she says.

"I knew I wouldn’t be ‘a number’ here."

While at Curry, Isabelle volunteered with the Child Life Specialist at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – designing learning activities for pediatric patients – and also interned at The Metropolitan Museum of Art – leading educational tours for day campers.

On campus, she served as president of Curry’s Hillel Organization and as a Student Ambassador for the Office of Admission – experiences that helped her overcome stage fright and become a confident public speaker.

“It’s so easy to get involved outside of class,” she says. “Curry gives you every opportunity to become a leader."
