Dr. Desirée Hensel became the Dean of the Curry College School of Nursing in the summer of 2017. Prior to her current role, she was the Interim Associate Dean of the Indiana University School of Nursing (Bloomington campus).  She previously served Indiana University as the Director of Evaluation, and held various faculty roles from 2005-2015 as a Resource Center Manager, Visiting Lecturer, Assistant Professor, and Associate Professor. Her education includes a Ph.D. from Walden University, an MSN from Ball State University and a BS in Nursing from Indiana University. She is certified by the National League for Nursing as a certified nurse educator (CNE) and by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a pediatric clinical nurse specialist (PCNS-BC)

Dr. Hensel's scholarship centers on curricular design, evaluation, and the use of high-impact teaching strategies while more closely examining how nurses define themselves in the 21st century. She has published over 30 peer-reviewed manuscripts, many of these in collaboration with BSN students. As co-editor of Lippincott's Q and A Review for NCLEX RN (11 and 12th ed), Dr. Hensel lectures to faculty and students  nationally and internationally about NCLEX preparation. Dr. Hensel has unique expertise using Q methodology for research, quality improvement, and program evaluation.  She has extensive simulation experience including laboratory design. Dr. Hensel has served as an Accreditation Commission on Education in Nursing (ACEN) site visitor, team chair, and evaluation review panel member. She has been recognized for her leadership and innovation in undergraduate research, teaching, and service.
