Education - Transition Specialist

Curry College is one of the first institutions in Massachusetts to offer a post master's certificate leading to initial licensure as a Transition Specialist. This program is for professionals who already hold a bachelor's or master's in an appropriate discipline.

This certificate is designed to meet the standards, guidelines, and competency requirements established by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for Transition Specialist Endorsement and the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).  Help students with special needs prepare for post-secondary education, employment, and independent living.

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts urges school districts to address the complex academic, communication, social, and behavioral needs of student with disabilities, including the transition process.  This endorsement will open doors to new career opportunities and help students with disabilities become successful adults in our communities.

Admission Requirements

-Bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited institution

-Minimum of 2-years experience under one of the following licenses or certifications:

• Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (Pre-K-8; 5-12)
• Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities (All)
• Teacher of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (All)
• Teacher of the Visually Impaired (All)
• School Guidance Counselor
• School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor
• Rehabilitation Counselor
